Sailing, Canoeing and Watersports

Luxury self catering holiday accommodation for sailors in Dartmouth, Devon. Dartmouth is one of Devon‘s best locations for all kinds of water sports. If you are looking for that unique location offering luxury holiday accommodation for your next sailing vacation, then look no further. With a secure garage near a launch slipway near the mouth of the River dart you can store boats of 5m or more. Whether you are sailing, diving, canoeing, or power boating then The Pottery is the ideal holiday location.

Sailing and yachting

The Pottery is ideal for dinghy sailors to store and launch their own boats just 40m from the front door, and is a short scenic walk from the town and all the water activities and sailing in Dartmouth and Kingswear. For yacht sailors, the harbour boasts 2 yacht clubs, with further clubs upstream at Dittisham and Stoke Gabriel. For beginners, there are several RYA accredited sailing schools. Dartmouth’s annual Regatta in August features racing for boats of all types, plus a host of on-shore entertainment.
See our Dartmouth Information pages for more details.

Canoeing and kayaking

The garage is large enough so keep several canoes and kayaks, with a short 40m walk down to the waterside where you can launch in safety, just 500m from the sea, with cliffs and secluded coves both north and south of the river. Heading upstream, through Dartmouth harbour, the river winds past Dittisham to Totnes, approx 10 miles away, the tidal limit. White water action is available in the upper reaches of the river on Dartmoor. Don’t have a canoe of your own? Hire a canoe or join in a group river adventure in Dartmouth, exploring the wildlife or learning bushcraft skills.

Power boats and boat hire

The River dart welcomes power boat users too! Whether you own your own boat or wish to hire one, Dartmouth and Kingswear can accommodate you, with marinas, slipways, onshore storage and chandlers – an ideal base to explore the river, the coast and some of Britain’s cleanest beaches. Skippered boats can be hired for fishing and diving parties, or smaller self-drive cruisers and ribs can be hired by the hour or the day. Sailing schools also offer powerboat certification courses.

Scuba diving

Warfleet Creek was an original training centre for the British Sub Aqua Club and Dartmouth and the South Hams coast still offer calm seas and better visibility than most other UK locations. Divers can shore dive from Castle Cove (just 15 minutes walk away from The Pottery) or use one of the local dive operators to explore the many wrecks and reefs.

No1 The Pottery

This local landmark building, renovated in 2006, retains many attractive architectural features. The spacious one-bedroomed duplex layout sleeps up to 4, set over 2 floors.
