Luxury self catering holiday accommodation for Artists and Art Lovers
There are so many creative opportunities for artists and art lovers in and around Dartmouth, and the Pottery is an excellent base from which to explore its long history of art and craftsmanship. Dartmouth Pottery itself ceased production in 2002, but there are many more studios working in many media. In selecting decoration for our luxury apartment, we have made exclusive use of the local artists and galleries - see our virtual tour.
A chance to meet local Artists and Craftsmen
The South Hams area of Devon has long been synonymous with artists and craftsmen, and Dartmouth is particularly rich in creative workers of all kinds of media, from fine art to driftwood sculpture, mixed media to glass, ceramics to photography. Many local artists have studios in town where you can observe them at work.
Browsing the galleries
Apart from the artists' own studios, there are many independent galleries showing more work from both local artists, as well as arts and crafts from further afield. Foss Street in particular is bursting with art, though there seem to be galleries and studios around every corner. 10 miles upriver, Totnes also has a wealth of artist and galleries, particularly up the hill and in "the narrows". There are yet more opportunities for art lovers in Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
For further information visit our Dartmouth Information pages.
Inspiration for your own art or photography
For the hands-on artist, Dartmouth and its picturesque surroundings are a fantastic source of material for painters and photographers. Take inspiration from the sea vistas and cliffs along the South West Coast Path, the nostalgia of the Steam Railway, the ever-changing life of the harbour and the River Dart, or the textures and natural colour of the rolling South Hams with Dartmoor on the horizon. Or simple walk down to Warfleet creek and sketch as the boats, the tides and the ducks glide by.
The Pottery
This local landmark building has been sympathetically renovated to the highest standard, retaining many attractive architectural features. The apartment is a spacious one-bedroomed duplex layout, sleeping up to 4, set over 2 floors. To see more, take the virtual tour
